Waterfowl include ducks, geese, swans, coots, and cranes. Massachusetts is at the forefront of waterfowl research and has made many important waterfowl-related discoveries 1. This species group is considered a national resource and is incredibly popular for hunting. Thus, waterfowl are protected through the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which regulates hunting and related requirements 2.
